Rapala Fishing Lures

Over 7 Decades Of Fish-Catching Expertise: Rapala Fishing Lures

Do you know the Rapala fishing lures story? It began way back in 1936. A very observant Finnish fishermen by the name of Lauri Rapala noticed that larger-sized fish would often attack and devour smaller-sized fish -- especially the ones that were hurt in some way. He began to carve wooden lures that were jointed in the middle to simulate the movement of a small baitfish. Rapala fishing lures were born! Rapala fishing lures are premium fishing lures -- I am told that more world-record-sized fish have been caught using this lure than any other.

Take the Rapala original jointed rainbow trout lure. This Rapala fishing lure is constructed from balsa wood so it will float to the surface when it is not being pulled through the water. My favorite is the rainbow trout -- it has two sets of size-9 treble hooks. This Rapala fishing lure is also available in the same design, but with different markings and colorations: silver, fire tiger, and gold.

Here's another must-have item: the Rapala Ultra-Light Fishing Lures Kit. Priced at only $19.99, this Rapala fishing lures kit has some essential fishing things that every ultra-light fisherman needs -- the Mini Fat Rap, the Rattlin' Rapala (which produces harmonic underwater noises attractive to fish), a guide card for learning how to tie the special "Rapala knot" and a copy of the Rapala tackle box guide. Highly recommended for all you ultra -light fishermen out there!

If you are a saltwater fishermen, then of course you need high-quality lures in order to land the big ones -- and the Rapala has you covered with their "Salt Skitter," which normally retails for $24.45. This Rapala fishing lure is specially designed as a surface popper -- it is used when you are working a lure along the surface of the water, rather than deep underneath. This Rapala fishing lure also incorporates a rattle chamber, which will help to attract fish via sound as well as sight.

On the other hand, as a saltwater fishermen, often times you will want a lure which is capable of penetrating beneath the water's surface. If so, I recommend the "Sinking Magnum" -- a 5 1/2", 1 1/4 ounce sardine-shaped fishing lure with two sets of #14 treble hooks. Normally priced at $25.74, this Rapala fishing lure is excellent when used for freshwater fishing as well as for saltwater fishing.

Finally, if you are a deep-sea fisherman, you've just got to take a look at the "Giant Original" floater lure. This Rapala fishing lure is 29 1/2" in length! Priced at around $95, you will often find it on discount -- sometimes at any considerable savings (one source I consulted currently has this Rapala fishing lure discounted over 20%).

I have never heard the history of the Rapala fishing lure. This was interesting reading for a man that has used Rapala lures for many years.
